“Flight of the Langoustine” / Crowd-Funding for The Hove Plinth

14 July 2015 - 1 January 2020

Pierre Diamantopoulo MRBS

"Flight of the Langoustine" Bronze & Steel / Public Realm. Pierre Diamantopoulo MRBS. One of three winning sculptures awarded a place on the forthcoming Hove Plinth. Each sculpture will be taking its turn on the Plinth on the Hove Seafront Promenade for a period of 12 - 18 months, then will be allocated a permanent site in Hove and Brighton. This will be an ongoing programme of sculptures, on a similar basis to The Forth Plinth at Trafalgar Square. Maquettes have already been commissioned and fund-raising has started with a view to installing sculptures from Spring 2017. “Flight of the Langoustine” was inspired after a bit of beach-combing. A storm had deposited a mangled lobster pot yards from my (first) studio under the arches in Brighton. This washed-up object had been a means of escape for the lobsters and this translated itself into a human story of exodus and release – a dash for freedom." The Crowdfunding Campaign for the Hove Plinth has started to raise the last tranche needed for completion of the Plinth itself. Nearly there - all support welcome! http://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/hove-plinth
