Adorn, by Helen Pailing, National Glass Centre

23 August 2017 - 1 September 2018

Helen Pailing Bursary

Adorn has been made using almost 1000 pieces of salvaged glass from Wearside Glass Sculptures. Building on her background in textiles Helen has added a glass hook to each piece of glass and then wrapped it in copper foil, changing the way that we perceive the glass shapes. These 'recrafted' objects are displayed en masse within frames that were once part of the lighting system at NGC. This semi-permanent installation will change over time as the environment affects the finish of the copper. The ropes reference the industrial heritage of the immediate area. It is suspended like an over sized pendant, an adornment for the building.
