Hunter makes sculptural objects driven by an exploration of heightened psychological states, autobiographical experiences, and the idea of the feminine. Large installations and public participatory works are site and concept specific.
Emma Hunter is a sculptor, interior designer, and visiting lecturer at Chelsea College of Art & Design. Hunter works across a range of materials including cast bronze, iron, ceramic, metal, and wood as well as found objects. Her sculptures are driven by a desire to express psychological emotional states coming from a general interest in anthropological mental health conditions and autobiographical experiences. Hunter’s ‘objects’ are mostly bodily in nature but abstract in form. As well as these more personal works Hunter uses her spatial awareness and interest in participatory public art to create site and/or research specific works.
