Benjamin's search for form was triggered by dynamic phenomena observed in nature and via scientific methods.

Originally from Germany, Benjamin came to the UK in 1993 to study at the School of Jewellery in Birmingham. His interest soon shifted towards sculptural rather than semi-functional objects and a line of enquiry was started into ‘fluid’ dynamic forms, which eventually led to a PhD in 2004. An Arts Council of Wales grant received in 2006 supported the further development of the forming processes to work at a scale suitable for public spaces. Since then Benjamin has received several civic commissions for schools and a hospital, alongside making work for exhibition and private clients. Works are formed out of steel sheet and plate rather than being cast, which maintains a strong sense of the tensile forces that underpin the creative vision.
