Weekend Gallery Assistant

This role is responsible for opening the gallery to members of the public on Saturday afternoon between 12.00-5.00pm and offering a warm welcome.

This is part-time role, every Saturday 19 May - 15 September 2018, 11.30-5.30pm, £7.68 per hour.

Volunteering

The Society has a series of fascinating volunteering opportunities alongside our communication, learning, gallery and archive activities.

Membership and Communications Volunteer

This role works closely with the Society’s Communications and Events Manager, experiencing the full range of membership, administration and communications tasks connected with the society's 600+ professional sculptor members.  Enthusiasm for research and updating databases is vital for this computer-based role in the Society’s historic Head Office on Old Brompton Road. 

Membership and Communications Volunteer role:

As part of a small and lively team tasks may vary from week-to-week but will include the following activities:

  • Research opportunities for the weekly RBS Members EBulletin 
  • Assist with maintaining the members database
  • Assist with Archive enquiries
  • Assist with updating Members' Online profiles

Gallery Volunteer

Our Gallery Volunteers are proactive members of our Front of House team who enhance visitors’ experience at the Society's exhibitions. As well as providing a fantastic customer experience and monitoring the security of the exhibits, volunteers assist with additional marketing and administrative tasks during quieter moments in the gallery. Gallery Volunteers are central to our 2018 vision to open the gallery space every weekday and enhance awareness of the Royal Society of Sculptors through encouraging engagement with the historic Head Office on Old Brompton Road. 

Gallery Volunteer role:

  • Provide a friendly welcome to visitors as they enter the Society
  • Be the first point of contact for visitors
  • Count visitors as they enter the gallery
  • Encourage visitors to keep in touch with the society by joining our mailing list
  • Encourage visitors to fill in our visitor book and to give feedback
  • Invigilate the gallery space, providing crucial object and site security
  • Adhere to top customer service standards ensuring all those who enter the Society have a fantastic visitor experience
  • Encourage visitors to spread the word about the Society by writing on TripAdvisor or following us on social media
  • As and when required:
    • Approach members of the public to get useful feedback about their visitor experience
    • Assist with marketing and administrative tasks on the front desk if  the gallery is quiet

Archive Volunteer

Archive volunteers assist with a range of tasks connected with the Royal Society of Sculptors archive based at the Society’s Headquarters, Dora House. The Society’s archive is housed in the basement of the building and is comprised of past and present members’ files. As a working archive it is a valuable source of information on the collective work of the Society’s members and history of the Society. Diligent and systematic volunteers are required to ensure this resource is well organised and accessible for research enquiries.

Archive Volunteer role:

  • Prepare correspondence in response to archive enquiries
  • Document sculpture and Royal Society of Sculptors’ Members information
  • Maintain the filing system
  • Other ad hoc archival duties as and when required
