Paul Lewthwaite FRBS

Born in 1969 on the Isle Of Man, Paul moved to Sunderland in 1990 to study Fine Art, winning the degree show prize for art. He set up a studio in Nottingham in 1995, and after 16 years, relocated to Godalming, Surrey. He is currently Sculptor in Residence at Charterhouse School.

Paul has completed a number of permanently sited sculptures around the UK and exhibited widely in an international context. He has won several awards and has been artist in residence at various prestigious galleries and institutions.

Within his work, Lewthwaite always returns to “the object” as significant thing. Having an implied utility, his sculptures often reference real or imagined functional items. This is complemented by a continued interest in formal abstraction and a naturally playful curiosity.
