Patrick Lowry MRBS, David Ogle MRBS, William Mackrell MRBS, Nika Neelova, Amy Sharrocks and Joanna Sands MRBS.  This richly illustrated publication is contextualised throughout by: Dave Beech, writer, curator and Senior Lecturer in Fine Art at Chelsea College of Art; Richard Cork, British art historian, editor, critic and broadcaster; and Sarah Kent, former visual arts editor of Time Out and the ICA's Director of Exhibitions.

The accompanying exhibition includes the work of Alexander Costello MRBS, David Ogle MRBS, Nika Neelova and a rare chance to see an exhibition of all nine limited edition prints together. All the prints are available to buy £100 plus postage.

A priori (or It’s Not About The Thing. It’s About All Of It And Doing Things) is an open and continuous series of performances concerned with locating and harnessing the ‘idea’ through existential pursuits and exchanges with different materials and consequential forms. Initial forms / sculptures have been created through the process of smashing up blank canvases with a hammer and, more recently, fighting huge sheets of paper.

Neale Donald Walsh said “A life of choice is a life of conscious action. A life of chance is a life of unconscious creation”. With a little tinkering I put forward “A sculpture of choice is a sculpture of conscious action. A sculpture of chance is a sculpture of unconscious creation”. Insert “Man’s task is to become conscious of the contents that press upward from the unconscious” (Carl Jung) and we loosely locate my point of departure.

A priori (or It’s Not About The Thing. It’s About All Of It And Doing Things) was first performed to a public audience for ‘perFORMa’ @ FOLD gallery, London, July 2015. Images courtesy of Agnese Sanvito & FOLD gallery.
