The starting point for my practice is an interest in insides, outsides, and the surfaces, boundaries and spaces between them.
Jane Jobling was born in Yorkshire and now lives and works in Devon. She graduated from the Royal College and then completed a practice-based PhD at the University of Gloucestershire. She has exhibited widely and also considers teaching is an important part of her practice and currently teaches at Plymouth College of Art and the University of Gloucestershire.
She investigates what could be seen as traditional aspects of sculpture, such as form, space, symmetry and light/shadow. Her interest in insides, outsides and the surfaces, boundaries and spaces between them are explored through the categories, such as the cutting/slicing series: forms that reveal space, the folding series: forms that conceal, reveal and create new layers, the continuous surface series: which blur the edge or boundary between interior and exterior of the form, the surfaces/skins series: which explore materiality and space and the pocket series: forms that trap space.
